About Us

About Us

Being the peak Association for 85 years, the HBIA takes pride in being the consultative body for the hairdressing and beauty industry to both the State and Federal Governments and various Training Boards. We also participate in Industrial Relations, Employee Relations and other Government Tribunals. We influence the legislation that influences you. Importantly, we have first-hand industry experience and truly understand the needs of the salon owner.

The HBIA takes a pivotal role in dealing with Training Providers, Product Companies, Salon Operators, Government Bodies and the Union. This ensures that the best interests of the industry are kept at the forefront of all negotiations. Your industry Association offers a myriad of products and services including seminar and workshops on the key industry issues whether it is changes to training, employment matters or the latest trends in information technology.

As of April 2016, The HBIA has some exciting news for members with the engagement of a new service provider to offer wages and employment information for members. This group being FCB Group.

FCB guarantee 98% of calls are answered first time which is a real benefit for HBIA members whom don’t have the time to wait around for advice.

HBIA can now provide to financial members a range of templates and fact sheets as a part of the HBIA membership.  Another real saving that we are delighted to be able to offer members.

HBIA members can call direct to wages and employment matters on a 1300 number. All other enquiries should be directed to Kristy or Sandra whom continue to service our members as they have for the last 15+years.

valuable resource in the area of human resources, employment law and best practice in fostering a great place to work. The additional benefit has been the development of our team leading the salons to being able to make balanced and informed  decisions with their teams.

We have been associated with the HBIA for many years as a salon owner and then as an RTO. The information and support we receive from the HBIA is invaluable and any salon owner should consider membership. Running a business today can be complex and time consuming and unintentionally businesses can quickly discover they are operating outside of the law. HBIA can assist you in receiving the most up to date information to ensure you are protected.

I have been associated with the HBIA for over 25 years and have found them

an invaluable resource and imperative for running my business. When I had my salon we utilised HBIA and found the service incredibly valuable. We also found the benefits

associated with membership such as the salon insurance saved us real dollars as well as gave us piece of mind. In my role as Artistic Director with HBIA I hear constantly how valuable our events are for industry as well as new entrants to the industry. I am very proud to be associated with HBIA. If you can only belong to one Association it must be HBIA.

Michelle Anthony,  2013 Australian Hairdressing of the Year & Artistic Director HBIA

I joined the HBIA as a young salon owner (many years ago) primarily for information on how to run my business. I also had a strong desire to belong to an organization that understood what my feelings were and the help I would need as a salon owner & employer. Something uniquely HAIRDRESSING. What I have gained from HBIA, over the years, has been so much more.

Training
Business Management

Travel
and, of course, amazing friendships and connections with so many Hairdressing Industry people. From other salon owners to product suppliers to Educators to business and government leaders both in Australia and overseas. This is a great Global industry and I belong to it all right here in Melbourne.
